Steroid Injection
Intralesional corticosteroid injection places a small amount of corticosteroid directly into a raised, inflamed, or thickened area of skin. By calming local inflammation and reducing excess fibrous tissue, it helps flatten and soften raised scars and settle inflamed lesions.
This is a prescribed medical treatment for a diagnosed condition, not a cosmetic procedure. The skincare around it has a narrow and specific job.

How It Works
A raised scar is an overactive repair response. Fibroblasts keep producing collagen and the tissue builds into a firm, elevated band that can itch and tighten.
A corticosteroid injected into that tissue dials the activity down. It suppresses local inflammatory signalling, reduces fibroblast proliferation, and slows new collagen deposition while the body continues breaking down what is already there. Over successive weeks, the lesion softens and flattens.
That mechanism defines what topical care can do here. The treatment works by reducing local collagen production — that is the goal, not a side effect. Skincare should support the comfort and condition of the surrounding skin without working against the clinical intent of the injection

The lesion progressively softens and flattens, and itch or tenderness settles. Effect builds over weeks, which is why sessions are spaced weeks apart. Surrounding skin can be cared for normally; the treated lesion follows the physician's instructions.

Raised scars are managed across a series of sessions. The physician monitors the treated area for local changes such as thinning, lightening, or more visible small vessels. These are reported to the prescriber, not managed with skincare.
Skincare priority: Continue gentle, supportive care as directed while allowing your prescriber to manage changes within the treated tissue.
